Embrace These Makeup Trends This 2019

2019 is already here and it’s a time for fresh faces and fresh starts. And what better time to switch up your beauty look?

So many unexpected beauty trends—from flannel hair to cleansing oils to jade rollers – took took 2018 by storm. But believe it or not, 2019 is going to be jam-packed with even more glitz and glamour. Can you handle it? Well we’re already pinning our favourites!

The predictions for 2019 makeup trends are in, and we can’t lie, they have us pretty excited. With a forecast of graphic liners, natural brows, pastel palettes, and glossy lips, who wouldn’t be? If all this sounds like the ’90s are making comeback (again), then you’re right. The fact that skin is also in, merely confirms it. We’ve already seen celebrities stun in a number of natural makeup looks this awards season, and we expect more to come.

So in terms of beauty, 2018 was quite the doozy for beauty lovers. If you’ve been following along with this year’s makeup trends, you already know that nothing constitutes as “too much” these days: huge halo brows, painted rainbow teeth, twisted corkscrew nails were all wacky trends that jumped from newsfeeds and onto real people. And while those might be a bit extreme for your day-to-day life, fear not: 2019’s make up trends are all about stepping outside of the box without deviating too far from it.

The looks we are seeing on the streets, on the runway and from famous celebrities and make up artists are very diverse, and ultimately being that we’re in a time of individual expression and empowerment, they’ll all be seen in one manifestation or another on the streets

So, in other words: Even if you spotted something like three-toned shimmer shadows on the runway, you can easily take one of those shades and add it to the corners of your eyes for a more simple, day-to-day look. Versatility — and an open mind — is key.

Glass Gloss
Glossy lips are back and the trend will stay — because it will take a while for everyone’s lips to rehydrate after the dry, chalky lip trend that we’ve endured.

Soft Contour
Highlighting and contouring will never go away. But unlike in years past when heavier, noticeable iterations of the trend took off, a continued shift towards less drama looms for 2019.

Dewdrop Highlight
Good makeup starts with even better skin and clean beauty and taking care of your skin now ranks higher than ever on the priority list. Glowy, ‘glass skin’ has been quite the trend in 2018, and we don’t see it going out of style next year.

Shimmer, Not Glitter
When your look calls for a little extra pizazz, we suggest placing a tiny touch of shimmer in the corners of the eyes — which is a lot fresher (and cleaner) than heavy glitters. Another pro tip: While applying highlighter, sweep the product from your cheekbones to your temple and on your lids, too.

Smooth Velvet
Smooth “blotted velvet” is another comfy lipstick texture that we think will dominate the everyday makeup scene. So if you don’t want to pass on matte just yet, we suggest giving this softer, almost airbrushed-like approach a go instead.

Those Brows
Aside from the full fluffy brows that the world craves, more people are experimenting with bleaching them. Adding some flair is no longer perceived as a ‘scary’ thing to do and we love it!

Flushed Blush
We personally think it’s time for blush to be embraced. It’s very often underused, but offers an easy way to addcolor and ‘mood’ to the face,” Shades from pink to orange are worn high up on their cheeks and under the eyes for a cool, doll-face effect.

Unconventional Eyeliner
According to the pros, the cat eye will be reinvented in more ways than one in 2019. Black liners and pigment are expected to take a temporary backseat to brown and deep metallic hues.

Revamped Red Lips
You can absolutely never go wrong flaunting a bright red lip; however, deeper shades of wine and earthy reds are becoming classics all their own.

Playful Mod Eyes
We’re calling it now, bright pops of colour on the eyes will again, without a doubt, make their way into 2019. To nail the look (and channel your inner model), we recommend using your favourite bold eyeliner to make a single dot below your lower lash line — it’s that simple but also guaranteed make a chic statement.

With 2019 quickly approaching the half way mark, it’s time we start talking about the beauty trends that will be popping up on the ‘gram and in real life. We predict that the upcoming year will be like 2018 in some ways— filled with lots of shimmer and glow, but we’ll also say goodbye to some beloved makeup looks. It’ll be the end of the all-matte era as we move bravely into a glimmering 2019 — preparation for an innovative 2020, which will be all about beauty tech and ultra-personaliaed routines.

If the above trends didn’t float your make up boat, we have plenty more hot 2019 trends to choose that may be right up your alley.

Shimmery Shadows
Shimmery shadows are going to be everywhere in 2019, and by everywhere we mean on every eyelid and in every beauty stash. Shiny is undeniably mesmerising (and great for Instagram engagement). If you’ve prepped for this trend by buying up every jewel-tone shimmer in sight, good.

Dumpling Skin
The Internet went crazy over glass skin in 2018, as the phrase became synonymous with flawless, mirror-like skin. And while the glass skin look isn’t going away anytime soon, we’re making room for dumpling skin in 2019. It’s another ultra-glowy complexion trend with one key difference: it carries over into makeup too.

Jewel Tones
Pastel shadows had their moment in 2018 — popping up in wings, smoky eyes and in the corners of every eye. In 2019, jewel tones will reign supreme, so prepare for deep, lush variations of your favourite pastel hues.

Luminous Matte Finish
While the ultra-dewy look isn’t going away per se (dumpling skin), luminous matte will be the foundation finish of 2019. It falls somewhere between dewy and matte (leaning more dewy), and has an emphasis on skin looking like actual skin. To get this look, we recommend pairing glowy primers with soft matte foundations or applying a sheer layer of color to let your natural skin peek through.

Acrylic Nails
Graphic nail art has reigned supreme for years, the emphasis on creating looks for shorter, natural nails. This was made even easier with gel, which has undoubtedly become a manicure staple. In 2019, however, long nails will be in and everywhere. Get ready for an acrylic invasion — don’t say we didn’t warn you.

We said 2019 would be a luminous one — even for the lips. Expect to see glossy, shiny, metallic lips this year, all year. If it shines, it’ll be on mouths and we’re not mad at it. In fact, we’re stocking up on drugstore glosses and adding toppers to our liquid mattes, and you should be too.

Grey Hair
If you’ve been on the fence on growing out your grey hair, this just might be the year to commit, since natural, silver locks are trending for 2019. Already rocking your greys? Don’t forget to keep your tresses healthy and shiny. If you’re not quite ready to ditch the dye and embrace your greys, that’s OK, too! There are a ton of amazing beauty products that will keep your colour-treated hair looking amazing.

Baby Bangs
While saying adios to another year can be bittersweet, charging into the new year with a fresh start is exciting. Debut a new you and a new ‘do in 2019 with cropped bangs a la Audrey Hepburn. Super short fringe is seriously trending for the new year, and bangs look great on just about anyone.

Liquid Exfoliators
We’ll do just about anything for brighter, smoother skin. Liquid exfoliators? Hell, why not. Unlike the gritty scrubs you used to use, these trendy exfoliants have water-like texture and gently lift dead skin from the surface so there’s nothing left to clog pores through chemical exfoliation. While “chemical” sounds scary, don’t let it fool you. There are plenty of gorgeous natural products out there.

Lilac Locks
Flaunt-worthy lilac locks are about to take over your social media feed come 2019, and we don’t hate it at all! The soft pastel hair color will brighten dreary, cold winter days and is a playful choice for spring and summer. Feeling bold? Dye you hair an all-over shade of rich lilac. But if you prefer a more subtle change, ask your stylist to seamlessly paint lilac on your strands through balayage. Just remember to use a shampoo for colour-treated hair to keep your locks healthy, shiny, and vibrant.

Almond-shaped nails
The next time your manicurist asks if you want “square or rounded” nails, the answer is “almond, please.” Believe it or not, the new nail shape for 2019 is named for the soft, rounded shape of the nut. If you want to showcase the latest almond trend, hold off on hitting the nail salon until you’ve built a strong base. The last thing you want is a chipped or broken nail after shelling out the money for a mani.

Witch hazel
While it may sound straight out of Hocus Pocus, using old-school products like witch hazel for skincare is going to be very popular for 2019. Calming components and antioxidants in witch hazel can help soothe bug bites and stings, and rashes from poison ivy or oak. It’s also thought to aid acne, oily skin, puffy eyes, and sunburn.

Natural lash lifts
People are giving their eyelashes a lift with natural solutions like castor oil, grapeseed oil, and aloe vera to draw attention to their peepers.

Powder dipped nails
First week chipped nails are the worst! Enter: powder dipped nails. Not only do they solve the problem of ruined polish, but they are also easy and pain-free to remove, and last longer than traditional gels (up to a month, seriously!). But monthly manis at a professional nail salon can be heavy on your wallet, so you can learn to do it yourself at home.

Standout pouts
Kiss your clear glosses and nude lip colours buh-bye! Vivacious, statement lips are gaining momentum for 2019, and why not? A colourful pout is a quick, stylish way to amp up a bare-faced look with a pop of colour for the office or happy hour.

It can be pretty easy to fall into a makeup rut, and that’s particularly true when it comes to eye makeup. After all, black eyeliner and neutral eye shadow are flattering on just about everyone—and they’re not all that difficult to apply (especially if you’ve been using them day in and day out).

But sometimes it can be fun to step outside your makeup comfort zone and try a few new beauty trends. That’s why we’re sharing a few more of our favourite eye makeup trends for 2019. So, go ahead and make trying new eye makeup looks one of your resolutions for the new year!

Extreme Lash Volume
Put down your everyday mascara and reach for a fiber mascara instead. Then all you have to do is apply the primer, then apply the fiber-infused mascara for dramatic, gorgeous lashes.

Metallic Eye Shadow
Heavy metals are in—well, when it comes to eye shadow, that is. Metallic eye shadow broke out on the beauty scene last year, and we think it’s only going to be more popular in 2019. Go bold by applying a metallic eye shadow shade all over your lid.

Sunset Eyes
Can you think of anything prettier than a sunset? We thought not. That’s why it makes sense that the sunset eye is one of the biggest eye makeup trends around these days—and why it’ll continue to stay on top in 2019. You don’t have to wait until summer to create this makeup look, though—we say try it any time of the year!

Bold Lower Lashes
When you’re applying mascara, you might skip completely over putting it on bottom lashes, but you’re going to want to pay attention to them in 2019. That’s because bold bottom lashes are now an eye makeup trend in their own right.

Smudged Eyeliner
This eye makeup look has a punk rock vibe that can be created with the help of anblack pencil eyeliner.

The Lash Lift Effect
Take your lashes to new heights this year by faking a lash lift with your mascara. It’s easier than it sounds! Reach for a mascara with a bendable wand, which will allow you to reach the inner and outer-most corners of your lashes for extra length.

So, don’t be afraid to try these styles in 2019 – or even create your own. Check out some of our fantastic products here to go with your whole new look! Also check out Bridal Makeup – How you should wear your makeup on your wedding day, visit Alisa Ligato Makeup Artistry
